What is society?

A few days ago I came across the idea of the “elephant in the brain”. It is analogous to the analogy “Elephant in the room”. which means something big is in the room but everyone is ignoring it.

As it there is a major part of our brain is telling us something but we are ignoring it. For example, if someone asks me Why I want to be a doctor? I will say because it’s a noble profession, I want to help people but it’s not the only reason.

I want to be a doctor because I like money and respect comes with it. And it’s a major part of my decision. But I don’t tell this to anyone because it’s not a socially acceptable reason. It means we have to change bury some of our reasons because of society.

The main point is we are not doing it intentionally, our brain is ignoring those reasons. The most interesting thing is we are evolved like this. Our brain has changed itself according to society.

Another example is going to market:- it’s an example to understand the concept

Whenever we go to the market our parents wear good clothes, comb your hair, etc. I know you never thought why they say all this it is because they know the world is gonna judge us. If we wear bad clothes then they will not say anything but internally they will say “what is he/she wearing?”. Our brain has this habit of keeping hidden secrets.

Let’s be honest, remember last time when you told somebody on the road that “your shirt has a stain”. I am sure you never told this to anyone instead you thought “how creepy this person is who can’t wash his shirt properly.”

All of this was an idea from the book elephant in the brain.

Book recommendation:-

The elephant in the brain- It tells those things about our brain and society that we often ignore or our brain doesn’t want us to think like that. It’s a very good book if you are into social sciences and society.

The alchemist - it is one of the best selling books of all time. Telling how a person can chase his dreams.

Song recommedation:-

Driver’s licence - olivia rodrigo

POV - ariana grande

Thought:-

“Fear of death is ridiculous, because as long as you are not dead you are alive, and when you are dead, there is nothing more to worry about!”
